O.k. I solved the mystery Marcus Merkey was born 1691 in Switzerland, his son Nicholas was born 1725, then Nicholas Jr. was born in 1752, and he was married to Barbara Gebhardt. The name was changed to Markey somewhere along the line. Leonard was Nicholas and Barbaras son. He was born 1772-1775. He had a son named David born about 1812. Davids son George William Markey b. 1858 was my gr. grandfather. Anyone out there belong to this line? There is a Merkey barn being moved from Bethel Pa, and the history is incredible. It was built 1860. I believe the land it was on belonged to Marcus or Nicholas Merkey. They are moving it to Kutztown, and I know a lot about both. They are rebuilding it at the University for a library about Pa. German people.
