Your Jesse was residing in Missouri during the summer of 1870. Jesse is found listed in the 1870 Census of Missouri in Dent County, Franklin Township, Post Office in Salem. Census was taken on 6/20/1870. Original page # 553..

Rt. 18/18 Jessie (not spelled Jesse), age 22
Nohally (???), age 19
Mary A., age 8 to 12 months

Also living in Dent County was Jesse's uncle Jesse A. McCarter (Born: 1813). He is found listed on original page # 556-B...

Rt. # 51/51 Jessie (not spelled Jesse), age 57. He married Margaret Ann "Peggy" Dunn. Residing in his household is his mother-in-law Elizabeth Dunn, age 74.

Listed below Jesse, age 57, is his son William H. McCarter, age 28 at Rt. 52/52.
