Don't know if you are still looking for Alexander McClanahan but I just entered an Alex McClannahan (1856-1935) into www.findagrave.com and the only information I could find on him has Indiana as his place of birth with his father born in NC and mother in Ohio. I found him in Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi, 1930 census. That census list him as age 71, born in 1859. He and his wife, Harriet McClannahan, are buried at New Hope Cemetery, Prentis County, Mississippi. Hope this is your Alex.
