I think this must be the same family for several reasons. First, the only places in the U.S. that seemed to have McCorkles at that time were VA, NC and TN. The Bluff City McCorkles appear to have moved to the Greenville area. Looking at the ages of the Greenville McCorkles, she appears to be the right age to be a sibling of Samuel. If Mary was one of the older children, she "could" have been named after her mother. She named her first daughter Mary. I believe first daughters were generally named after their maternal grandmothers. Mary also had a son named Sam.
Any other suggestions would be welcome.
