Hi Mary Ann:
My husband (Robert) and I are also trying to track relatives that lived in Macon County MO!!

We are trying to get information on his Dad, in hopes of locating a place in Ireland that his relatives came from.

This is what we know:
Name: Joseph Alvy McElhaney
DOB: 1/9/1883 at London Mills, (Fulton County) IL
at the age of 12 moved with his family to New Cambria
(Macon Co) MO. He started working for the Great Northern Railroad, in 1906. He married my mother-in-law, in 1940, her name Amy Torgerson. He had been married previously, and had a daughter by this marriage. From the second marriage, they had two sons, James A. and Robert D.(my husband) He was killed in a railroad crash in 1947 at Morris Minnesota. From the obituary write up, we know that he had 3 brothers: John, of Abington, IL, Louis of New Cambria MO, Arthur of Cromwell IL, 2 sisters, Mrs Cora Rose and Mrs Katie Hayes of New Cambria. His mother was also living at the time of his death, her name Ella (?) McElhaney, also from New Cambria
I am not sure if the first part of my message took, so I am going to repeat. We are desperately trying to pin point where in Ireland the ancestors of this family came from, as we will be visiting Ireland in Sept. of this year.

Does any of this sound familiar to you??
I sure hope so, there couldn't be too many McElhaney's from Macon County MO!
Hope to hear from you soon!!
Pat McElhaney
