John McIlduff was one of at least three brothers who came from Ireland to America about 1773. Alexander McIlduff's wife was Elizabeth Wallace, who may have been Ann Wallace's sister. Oliver McIlduff (my line) was born ca. 1742 in County Down, Ireland, and married Sarah Agnew, born in County Antrim, Ireland. There may have been another brother named James. The brothers named their first-born sons Alexander, so the name of their father may have been Alexander McIlduff. The McIlduffs probably first came to Chester County, PA, and they may have been there for a while or in the Cumberland Valley. William Boyd Duff believed that this line originated in the western lowlands of Scotland, migrating to Ireland perhaps as early as 1606. He also researched that the Scotch-Irish settlers in Ireland came principally from Ayershire and Galloway.
