Ian, I do all my research at a distance unless in the area.May try Northern Ireland again next year and see if I can turn up anything in Strabane in the Catholic parish records and gravestones. Would like to find John and family births. My research has been done by the Scottish and Glasgow History Societies who have been so helpful and the archives in Glasgow. However they did not find the immigration papers for the McInnes/Mcginnis/McGuinness family and suggested RC records for those. I did not chase those up but tried Ireland without success.
Happy to share your mother's side of the family where I can. Do remember her vaguely when I was little before the war.
