Sarah Ann MCKAY - Could she be a CREATH?
Posted by: Tim McKay (ID *****5098) Date: July 13, 2007 at 07:36:35

My ggg-grandfather is William Creath MCKAY/MCCAY/MACKAY/MCCARY/MCKOY (I've seen it in print all those ways.) He lived from 1842 until 1930 in and around Charlotte, Prince Edward, and Lunenburg Counties, Virginia.

The middle name is my interest. Because it is an unusual middle name and is a well known Surname in Southside Virginia, I assume there is some family connection.

His parents were George B. McKay b. 1814 and Sarah Ann McKay b. 1816. I do not know her maiden name (thought it might be Creath). I don't have a marriage certificate for them.

One other theory is that they named him after one of the Creath ministers who traveled those counties often. Many of the McKay offspring went into the ministry.

I know it's just a hunch, but I don't want to leave stones unturned.

Thanks for any help.
