re Margaret McKay Tarnagulla Vic Australia
I am a direct descendant of Margaret's mother, Jane Oxley McKay nee Murchie and her 2nd husband John Smith. While I don't know Margaret's death details, I can tell you that her father, James McKay, married Jane in Sydney in 1844. Quite possibly they lost an infant son, William, in 1847. Jane's paternal grandfather was called William. James was born in 1797 (Scotland?) and died on 25 July 1851. Jane married John Smith in Sydney in 1853, and they eventually had 6 children, the 2nd youngest being my Great-Grandmother's father, Alfred, who was born in Tarnagulla in 1867. I do not know when the Smiths, with Margaret, moved to Tarnagulla, but can assume it was during the Gold Rush. At some stage they returned to Sydney. My records tell me that Margaret Williams was 53 at the time her mother, Jane, died on March 10 1895 in Annandale Sydney. As I cannot find records of Margaret's death in NSW, I assume she died in Victoria.
I hope this is of some help to you, and am happy to share any information.
Susan
