I am seeking further info on Alexander(Alexis) McKay born 1785 Rupert's Land(Canada), he married Marugerite Saulteaux in manitoba in 1808. He is identified in Metis Families, as documented by Gail Morin... and the Papers of Charles Douglas Denney. Alexis is identified as a son of Ignace McKay and Catherine Saulteaux.... his father was a voyageur and worked in Rupert's Land [no further history documented] Alexis was born between 1781 and 1785 in Rupert's Land According to the Papers of Charles Douglas Denney, Alexis McKay is listed in the Fort Dauphin Journal for 1804, as a voyageur with the Hudson's Bay Company. During the same year [1804] he was at Mandan, serving under the command of F.A. Larocque(found in Lewis & Clarke book). He is also identified in the 1835 Red River District Census Alexis married Marguerite Saulteaux before 1808, according to the custom of the country. I also found a sister Mary McKay born there 1804 and lists Alex as father. The other son to Alexander was Ignace Alexis b 1808(my line)married Josphete Bercier in Manitoba and Alexis b 1817 married Marie Flamand in RRS,MB. Alexis & Marguerite were formally married January 21st 1834 in St Francois Xavier, Red River District [Manitoba]. Their marriage is recorded as #3, in the 1834-1852 Marriage Register for St Francois Xavier [Manitoba] Alexis died November 7th 1839 in St Francois Xavier [Manitoba]. His burial on November 7th 1839 is recorded as #48, in the St Francois Xavier Church Burial Register 1834-1850. Does anyone know of his father Igance(who married Catherine Saulteaux) & where he might have came from? He would have been in Rupert's Land before 1780 for sure?
