I've been reading about my friend's McKee & Hoges family in Juniata, Pa.
I came upon this article about more McKees there, and was surprised to see that Alexander McKee, the Tory, had roots there, too. I don't believe they tie in with the others.
Col. Alexander McKee was born in Ireland circa. 1735, and came to America with his father, Thomas, b.1695 and Grand-father, Alexander.(Book of McKee & McKee Family Tree). His mother was Mary,a No. Caro. settler, captured and raised by the Shawnee tribe. She taught Alexander the ways of the indians.
He was a a trader and indian agent, became associated with Ft. Pitt, and after the start of the Revol.,he went with the British. He flew the British flag at his second home at McKees Rocks, and was forced to flee in the night when he was about to be arrested. He and the Girty bros. and his indian followers went to Canada. Capt. Thomas McKee was his son, b. Quebec, md. 1st an indian woman, Margaret and had Catherine, James and Ann. 2nd. Theresa Askin, son Alexander, b. 1802.
Col. Alexander spent the next 25 years promoting alliance between the British and indians. When he died in 1799, he was mourned and honored by the NW tribes and Tecumseh.
There is much info on the lives of these and their indian families, but they aren't my line and my notes are not trustworthy.
