Hi Susan Evans: My grandfather whose name was Frederick McKinnell was born in England. His father was born in Dumfries in the South of Scotland. Frederick went to California and bought land in North Ontario (Upland, California). He raised fruit but was not pleased with the markets at the time (in the 1890s) so he moved to Beardstown, Illinois where he stayed. I wonder if he might be related to your Annie MacKinnell.
