Hello,
I am looking for information on the ancestry of William MacKinnell b. December 25, 1842 in Castle Douglas, Scotland. His parents were Hugh Henry MacKinnell (ca.1822-d.ca.1880 in New Haven Co., CT) and Helen(Mary?) Haladay (Holliday?). Helen (Mary?) Haladay MacKinnell died shortly after William was born. According to William's obituary, he came with his father to New York City about 1850. Hugh remarried to a woman named Elizabeth (?) and had several children with her. Additionally, Hugh remained in New York and Connecticut with his second family, while his son, William, moved west to Illinois by 1862. William enlisted in the 104th Illinois Inf. Regiment (Co. G) during the American Civil War. While in the army in fought in several battles, most importantly he was with Gen. William T. Sherman's Army during the great march from Atlanta to the Sea. Any help regarding the ancestry of this family would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
