Hugh Smith and Janet Meikle had

This family interests me because I have an Archibald Smith born about 1808 in Wilsontown, Carnwath, Lanark according to 2 censuses. But his son reported on the death record that Archibald's parents were Hugh Smith and Elizabeth Hamilton.
I'm thinking Archibald's son was confused/wrong. Can anyone tell me about Hugh Smith and Janet Meikle's son Archibald?
