I visited Lesmahagow Churchyard a couple of weeks ago and photographed the Meikle gravestones. The gravestone of James Meikle, his wife Anne Hart and their children was one of the first as you enter through the rear gate. I have listed the inscription below and if anyone would like the photographs e-mailed just contact me. Unfortunately I asked my eleven year old son to take the photographs and he did a great job in getting the detail inscription split over two photographs but forgot to take one of the complete stone!
Here is the inscription, I apologise for any errors the gravestones were quite difficult to read in places:
Sacred to the memory of James Meikle of Auchren who died January 1835 aged 84 years and of his wife Anne Hart who died June 1800 aged 41 years and of Anne their daughter who died March 1853 aged 65 years and of Marion their daughter who died October 1859 aged 69 years and of Richard their son who died March 1863 aged 83 years. Hannah, their daughter who died 27th July 1868 aged 75 years. Margaret, their daughter who died 6th January 1870 aged 84 years. Isabell Leiper McGhee daughter of David McGhee died 21st January 1863 (or 8) in infancy.
Elizabeth Allan his wife died 15th November 1882 aged 61 years.
