The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Saturday, January 23, l875 DIED.--At his residence, near Chariton, on Tuesday, January l9, MR. ANDREW MELVILLE, aged sixty-three years. Another old resident gone from our midst, and another fireside made sad with grief. MR. MELVILLE removed to Lucas County nearly twenty years ago, from Pettis Co., Mo., and during that time has labored industriously in opening out his fine farm lying one mile southwest of town. He has raised a large family of children, most of whom were residing at home at the time of his death. For several months past the deceased had suffered terribly with the malady that finally terminated his life. For many years he had been a true and faithful member of the Christian Church of this city, and contributed much, by his excellent influence and financial aid, to establish that church upon a solid footing in this community. The community knew him as a just and upright man, and sympathize with his sorrow stricken friends in their sad bereavement. His remains were interred in the Chariton Cemetery on Thursday. The funeral services were preached by the Rev. N.E. Corey, of Osceola. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert December 1, 2003 http://www.rootsweb.com/~ialucas Notify Administrator about this message?
