I forgot to mention one possible lead: in the land records I've found regarding the purchase of the land at Opossum Creek in NW WV by Jacob DeVault, I've found the name Jacob DeVault, Sr. listed as the guarantor of the sale. As Jacob had only one son, named Abraham, I must wonder if our Jacob is the son of Jacob, Sr., or if the use of "Sr." is merely a record-keeping foible. I've been unable to confirm or refute this possible connection as yet. Thoughts?
