Dan, I don't know if this will be helpful at all, but here goes. The name John Warren Mickle sounds familiar... Not much to go on, huh? So what I will do is put down some of my family ties I do remember and see from there. Where I think you are related from is through my great-grandfather, Zack/zachius/Zacheous Mickle born in the early to mid 1800's and lived in Pa. He had a lot of children. I remember the names, Miles, Milo, Lee and I think John and others, including my grandfather, Ernest Alton Mickle who lived at Miller's Station, Pa. and later at Cambridge Springs, Pa. and someplace called Titioute(Totally guessing on how it's spelled) (I think that is near Titusville) around 1900, when my father was born. (1902) I remember my Dad talking about an uncle John, who would have to be the original John Warren, considering my Dad's age, if he were still alive. If you are related back to Zack Mickle, I can tell you he came from Scotland at a time when Scottish immigration was limited. To enter the United States he lived in Germany a few years, long enough to get German citizenship, then came here. I haven't worked out the direct tie back to the Scottish line, but I was told by a Scottish geneologist years ago, that Zack Mickle's decendants were allowed to wear the Aberdeenshire tartan (What Americans call plaid) which would tend to mean the line came from Aberdeen. Another interesting tidbit there is that the Mickle line in that area can be traced back to the early 1300's, and maybe further. Another indication, though, is that we were from Langholme, Dumfrieshire, Scotland, in the late 1700's and early 1800's, a man named John Burne Mickle. His father used the old spelling of Meikle, but John Burne Mickle, because of his dealings with the English, changed the spelling, so the English would pronounce it correctly. ( They kept trying to pronounce it Mee'kul) OK. I think I have more stuck away in the attic or somewhere, but that is all I recall out of my own memory. Hope it helps a little...
