Looking for parents of J.W. Mitchel born 1832 in TN

I am trying to find out the names of J.W. Mitchel's parents. J.W. Mitchel was born in Tennessee in 1832 and he was married to Martha from Missouri. Their youngest daughter, Donie, was my paternal grandmother. The Mitchel family was from Ireland. I am trying to trace the family back to Ireland. I am just starting this process and have no clue what I'm doing. I appreciate any assistance anyone can give me with my research.
