I have my information from the McClure's of Monongalia Valley. I am not sure why they thing Ormsby McKnight Mitchell's father was Col John Mitchell. The other issue is it one or two "L" at the end of the name.
The Col Johm Mitchell your talking about took over the Freemason Lodge from General Mordecai Gist in Charleston, SC.
I often wonder if both of them could be related.
