Bibb Family

Attempting to find descendants of Joshua W. Bibb (b. 1816, Virginia) and Elizabeth Brattin/Bratton (b. 1817, Tennessee) who migrated from Franklin County, TN, to southwest Missouri (Barry and Newton counties) in about 1839.

Have no information on eldest daughter, Nancy (b. 1835). Daughter Susan/Susannah (b. 1837) married William V. Morgan in Barry County in 1859. Susannah and William Morgan later returned to his home in Morgantown, Monongolia, West Virginia. They had at least three children, Emma L. (b. 1860), William H. (b. 1862), and Elizabeth M. (b. 1868).

Of the four sons of Joshua Bibb and Elizabeth Bratton (James M. (b. 1840), John (b. 1843), Robert (b. 1846), and Samuel D. (b. 1848)), only Robert appears to have remained in Barry County. He married Mary Stephens in about 1881. They had no children. Robert and Mary Bibb are shown in Exeter, Barry County through the 1930 census.

It appears that the Delcenia Bibb family listed in the 1880 census in Elm Springs, Washington County, Arkansas, are descendants of the Joshua and Elizabeth Bibb:

Delcenia O. Bibb, widowed, age 24, birthplace Arkansas
Robert C. Bibb, son, age 5, birthplace Arkansas -- father's birthplace Missouri
Ethel D. Bibb, daughter, age 4, birthplace Arkansas
John M. Bibb, son, age 2, birthplace Arkansas
Charles G. Bibb, son age 1, birthplace Arkansas
William H. Morgan, nephew, age 20, birthplace Missouri

It appears that Delcenia married one of Joshua Bibb's sons -- but which one? William H. Morgan is the son of Susannah Bibb and William Morgan. Susannah would have been Delcenia's sister-in-law. At least two of Delcenia’s sons returned to Barry County. Barry County, Missouri, Records show that Robert C. Bibb, age 22, married Cora F. Armstrong, age 19, Feb. 14, 1897. The Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter has the grave of Robert Bibb, 1875-1900. The 1900 census for Exeter, Barry County, shows his widow working as a dressmaker and living with her sister and brother-in-law, Leroy and Lucy Leith.

John M. Bibb lived with his aunt and uncle, Robert and Mary Bibb in Exeter, Barry County, Missouri, in the 1900 census. The Dec. 10, 1904, Cassville Democrat listed the marriage license for John M. Bibb and Clara Wiles. The 1910 census has the following family in Exeter, Barry County, Missouri:

John M. Bibb, male, white, age 31, married, first marriage, married five years, born in Arkansas, parents born in Arkansas, laborer, doing odd jobs, renting
Clara B. Bibb, female, white, age 27, married, first marriage, married five years, mother of two children, one surviving, born in Illinois, father born in England, mother born in Illinois
Frank S. Bibb, male, white, age 9/12, single, born in Missouri

John Mount Bibb registered for the World War I draft in Barry County, Missouri. He listed his permanent address as Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. He listed his age as 41 and his birthdate as August 1, 1877. He was working as an engineer for C.G. Tinklefraugh of Joplin. Nearest relative was Clara Belle Bibb of Purdy, Barry County, Missouri.

The 1920 census has the same family in District 2, Exeter, Barry County, Missouri:
John M. Bibb, male, white, age 42, married, born in Arkansas, parents born in Arkansas, laborer, doing odd jobs
Clara Bibb, female, white, age 36, married, born in Illinois, father born in England, mother born in Illinois
Frank Bibb, male, white, age 10, single, born in Missouri

The 1930 census has the same family in District 6, Exeter, Barry County, Missouri:
J.M. Bibb, male, white, age 53, married, age 26 when first married, born in Arkansas, parents born in Arkansas, laborer at the canning factory
Clara Bibb, female, white, age 47, married, age 22 when first married, born in Illinois, father born in England, mother born in Illinois
Frank Bibb, male, white, age 20, single, born in Missouri, laborer, doing odd jobs.

The Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter has the following graves:

John Bibb, 1876-1958
Clara Bibb, 1883-1959
Earl W. Bibb, Aug. 4, 1905-Aug. 4, 1905, son of J.W. & Clare Bibb
Frank S. Bibb, July 30, 1909-Dec. 16, 1965, Missouri 1st Sgt. 533 Field Arty Bn – World War II

Ted’s Funeral Home lists the following funerals: John Mount Bibb, Clara Bell Bibb, and Frank S. Bibb

Is anyone familiar with this family?? Can anyone confirm Delcenia's husband's name? Does anyone know what happened to the other children of Joshua and Elizabeth Bibb? And Delcenia’s other children?
