I need help identifying the parents of James Joshua Johnson b. 11 Aug 1801 Hawkins/Grainger County, Tennessee d. 1881 Christian County, Missouri. Joshua normally used his middle name with a few exceptions. Joshua married Sarah "Sally" Clowers Dent, daughter of John Dent and Mary Polly Clowers, in 26 Jul 1824 in Grainger County, Tennessee. They had 11 children including my ggrandfather John M. Johnson.
I have his census records from 1830 - 1880. In the 1870 census he did not indicate his parents were foreign born and in the 1880 census he did not indicate the location of his parents birth.
I do not know of any siblings or other relatives other than his descendants.
Joshua and Sarah moved from Grainger County, Tennessee to Hamilton County, Tennessee about 1840 where they remaind until after 1860. Sometime after 1860 and before 1870, they moved to Christian, County, Missouri. Sarah died in 1879 and Joshua two years later and are buried in Christian County, Missouri.
Joshua lived in the vicinity of John Dent at the time of the 1830 census. I have a strong feeling that perhaps Joshua's parents were close to the Dents and perhaps came from the Franklin County, Va. area in the 1790 time frame. I have no proof of this.
