Daviess County, Missouri Marriages, 1836-55, records that he married Lucinda Smith on 02 Aug 1840, in that county. In the 1850 Census of Daviess County, Joseph Atkinson is listed as a member of the household headed by Catharine Smith (mother of Lucinda, apparently dead at the time of the census).[ Household 446 in district 27, Daviess Co., MO] Joseph is recorded as being aged 35 years and born in North Carolina. With Joseph, listed in Catharine Smith's household, are his sons: Thomas and James, aged 9 and 6, respectively. This Joseph Atkinson has not yet been found in any census later than that of 1860. Of the sons of Joseph and Lucinda: (1) Thomas Atkinson is found in the census of Daviess Co. for 1860 in the household of Henry Mills (his uncle), aged 18 years, [Atkinson Thomas: 1860 U S Census: Missouri, Daviess Co., Grand River Twp., family 265]. The 1870 Census for Lee Twp., Platte Co., MO, aged 29 years, with a wife, Sarah, aged 22 years, and a daughter, Mary C., aged one year. [Adkinson T B: 1870 U S Census: Missouri, Platte Co., Lee Twp., family 96]. He is not yet found in any later census. (2) James Atkinson appears in the 1860 Census in the household of his uncle, George Cline, in Jackson Co., in Kansas Territory. [Atkinson James: 1860 U.S. Census: Kansas Territory, Jackson, Jefferson Twp., family 999]. He is listed as being 17 years of age. In the 1870 Census, James Atkinson is listed in Platte Co., MO, aged 26 years, with wife, Sarah, aged 23, daughter, Sarah, aged 5 years, and son, Charles W., aged 3 years. [Adkinson James: 1870 U S Census: Missouri, Platte Co., Pettis Twp., family 630]. In 1880, James is widowed. He appears as a gold miner in California. Listed are his children: Sarah, aged 15, Charles W., aged 12, Eliza, aged 8, John E., aged 7, and Ida E., aged 4. James Atkinson married Nancy Daniels Smith, widow of his cousin, Chesley Smith (who died about 1875). James and Nancy Atkinson appear in the 1900 Census of Grant Co., Oklahoma Territory [Atkinson James 1900 Census Oklahoma, Grant County, Lamont, Page 215a, family 66]. James' birthdate is given as May 1843. Does anybody have more information about the Atkinson families mentioned above? Specifically, does is there any information about the family and later history of Thomas B. Atkinson? Did Thomas B. Atkinson have a son, Joseph W.
