I have recently been able to scan and take notes from pages of the family bible purchased by William Tidwell in 1817, and used to record information some of his family, as well as his wife's (Mary Magdalene McMurtrey). He lived in what became Madison County Missouri at the time.
The bible is somewhat worn, and unfortunately, some of the pages are ripped and torn. It was printed in 1801. Besides Tidwell and McMurtrey entries, there are also entries for Brown, Williams and Tucker families. At this point, I don't have any connection between these families and the Tidwell/McMurtrey families. There is an entry that is very difficult to read, but appears to say Henry? purchased this bible. I don't know if bibles were resold. At any rate, following is the information recorded. If you would like copies of the scanned pages, please let me know. sharylcollin@msn.com
