This also is not what you asked for (obituary) but his name does not show up as a Frisco RR (now BN-SF) RR employee.

Since you did not mention which railroad he was employed as a conductor, it sounds concievable (to me) that he may have moved to Oregon Count, MO after retirement or was in that area when he died. I believe the MO death certificates list the place of death, whereas the Socia Security Death Index gives the last residence.
Sometimes the RR Retirementd board advises the S.S.D.I. the death of RR Retirees but I am not sure this happens in all cases?
