Re: John Kirchner and wife Gertrude came to US 1871 Posted by: Robert T. That family, a Kirschner family, was a different family and is still living in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, in the 1880 and 1900 censuses. (Mary didn't look ahead properly.) As to the 1880 census entry Mary found, I think that may well be your Kirchner family, even though the places of birth are off: Lizzie (Elizabeth) should be indicated as having been born in Germany, and Katie (Katherine) as having been born in Pennsylvania. (As you may be aware, the old U.S. censuses are notorious for errors and inaccuracies, most of which were the fault of the census takers, the old-time census takers often having left something to be desired.) But otherwise, this family does seem to fit. If so, then this confirms that Katherine Kirchner was, indeed, the younger daughter of John Henry (Johann Heinrich) Kirchner and his wife Anna Gertrude Bender, and was thus Elizabeth Kirchner's younger sister. This would mean, Emil, that the Lehenbauer family is related to the Kirchner family in two different ways, and in a rather strange way: First, the Lehenbauer family is related to the Kirchner family through the marriage of Katherine Kirchner to Christian William Lehenbauer. Second, the Lehenbauer family is related to the Kirchner family through the marriage of Elizabeth Kirchner Lölkes's daughter Gertrude Lölkes to Michael Lehenbauer. But here's the thing: As you may already know, Michael Lehenbauer was a younger brother of Christian William Lehenbauer. So when Gertrude Lölkes married Michael Lehenbauer, she married her Aunt Katherine Kirchner Lehenbauer's brother-in-law! And through her marriage to Michael Kirchner, Christian William Lehenbauer, whom Gertrude had come to think of as her uncle, seeing that he was married to her Aunt Katherine, became Gertrude's brother-in-law!
