When I first starte doing research on George W. Lackey, b. 1788, GA, d. 1865, Fannin Co., TX I was told by a researcher that his wife Elizabeth b. 1782, NC, d. 1852, Fannin Co., TX was a d/o Strangemon Modglin. I have not found proof of this. I have since found that Elizabeth had a prior marriage to a man named (Thomas?) Rose. It looks as if the first husband died and Elizabeth married G.W. Lackey between 1815 & 1818.
Known info:
1. Elizabeth Rose Lackey lived in the Pope Co., Area.
2. Had 3 childrened named Rose that give Pope Co., Illinois as their birth place.
3. George W. Lackey & family lived near Strangemon Modglin in Pope Co., Illinois 1820.
4. George & Elizabeth had 5 known children that give their birthplace as Pope Co., Illinois.
5. George & Elizabeth Lackey left Pope Co., Illinois abt. 1833 & moved to Washington Co., Illinois.
6. Two of the Rose children stayed in Washington-Benton Co., Ark. area while 1 rose son and the rest of the Lackey family moved to Fannin Co., Texas abt. 1843.
I am trying to find the marriage record for Elizabeth & a man named Thomas Rose. Maybe it will give her last name. I know there was a Thomas Rose that died in Gallatin Co., Illinois abt. 1815. His probate was started in Gallatin County but finished in Pope County after the formation of Pope County.
