A mystery for MODGLIN experts?

Martha Modglin married James Lessly Glass December 5, 1844 in Pope County IL. In the 1850 census, James and Martha were living in Pope County and the census shows their child John M Glass, age 4 living with them. They also have 6 Modglin’s living with them (even though the name is not spelled MODGLIN, it is spelled MODGIALIN). They are:

Mary, 14
James, 49
William, 17
Francis, 14
Wesley (?), 10
Mary, 6

All were born in Illinois except James Modglin, who was born in North Carolina, and Martha Modglin Glass who was born in Tennessee.

Another Modglin female, Emily Ann, married another Glass male, Francis Stevenson Glass. The Glass boys were brothers.

Emily is a known daughter of James Modglin and Lucinda Kennedy. It is also assumed that this Martha is a daughter of James and Lucinda. However, I have been unable to find any documentation on any other possible children of James and Lucinda in the past. Could these be the “lost” children of James and Lucinda? Since Lucinda is no longer around, it looks like she has recently died.

Martha, married to James Glass, was born in about 1828 via census records. Emily Ann was born March 23, 1825 (this is known from my research with the Glass line).

There is a question on the age of the James Modglin as shown on the census. If the census is right and this James is 49, that would put his birth date in 1801 or 1802. HOWEVER, if the census taker made a mistake and the his age is 59, then his birthday is correct for what info I have been able to find on James Modglin (of James and Lucinda). The census taker here has go to be in question because of the way he spelled the name. I have seen the Modglin name misspelled several ways but this is the worst.

My guess is that this is THE James Modglin, daughter of Truman and Mary Ann, and that Lucinda has just died and James is living with his daughter and her husband for a while and these are the ‘lost’ children.

What do you experts think?
