How do we know that Elizabeth Roxanne Vogt was the daughter of Jesse L. Vogt and Adeline N. unknown?
Jesse appears in the 1850 Orangeburg District census, age 35 [born about 1815 ]w/ wife Adeline N., age 22 [born about 1828 ]w/ one child, Albert, age 5/12 [born 1850]w/
other Daniel A. Vogt, age 26 [ born 1824, or 1828 by 1880 census ]a physician.
I speculate that this is a brother of Jesse L. Vogt.
Dr. Daniel A. Vogt married Mary Annis Durr, born 16 Feb 1829 in Charleston District, died 20 Aug 1860 in Cokesbury, SC, buried at Target Methodist Church Cemetery, Holly Hill, SC. Mary Annis Durr was the daughter of a Jacob Durr who was dead by 1859 and Annis unknown. Mary Annis Durr had a known sister, Martha Durr, born 18 Aug 1831, St. James Goose Creek, Charleston Distict, SC, died January 17, 1859 in Marion County, Florida and was married to a Mr. J. M. T. Carter. After the death of Jacob Durr his widow Annis married a Mr. Albert Clark.
Sometime before 1868, Dr. Daniel A. Vogt married Alice unknown and had the following children who were born in Florida: Earnest, Lettie, Daniel, Frederick, and Dora. I
assume that these were all children by Daniel, ie, not step children born between 1868 and 1879. There may have been other children born after the 1880 census, however.
I am sure that this Daniel A. Vogt is at least related to if not the child of Frederick Vogt. Frederick Vogt had known children by Mary Ann Catherine Dantzler, born before 1814: Thomas Preston Vogt, Adam H. Vogt and Leonidas Vogt.
Other reseachers give two additional children, Wilbur and Elanora Vogt, but with no dates. One reseacher gives Dr. Daniel A. Vogt as a child, but this is not clear.
Adam Vogt was still living in December 22, 1863 according to certain SC legislative reports, etc.
Thomas Preston Vogt, born about 1835, died after 1880, married about 1865 to Julia C. Way, born 05 Jun 1840, died 20 Jun 1873, the daughter of Jacob Hoster Way and Celia Ann Warnock. Thomas and Julia had the following children by 1872: Thomas Preston Vogt, Jr., Samuel S. Vogt and Frederick Vogt between 1866 and 1872.
Samuel S. Vogt, born October of 1871, died after 1910, married Ann Victoria Moorer, daughter of John Noel West Moorer and Eliza Mims. Ann Moorer was born about 1874, died 10 Sep 1905. Samuel remarried after 1905 to unknown and had three other children who all died in childhood.
Ann Victoria Moorer Vogt is buried in the Moorer Cemetery, Dorchester County, SC. Ann was a cousin of James W. Moorer who married Elizabeth Roxanne Vogt.
Ella Durr, born Jul 1833, died after 1880, the daughter of a John Durr and Mason G. Murray, married Middleton E. Weatherford, born 1833 of St. James Goose Creek, Charleston District. A daughter, Anna E. Weatherford, born Jun 1856 married on 04 Dec 1873 in SC to Sydney F. Vogt, born about 1852. They had 11 known children, one being Addie Vogt who died in Tampa, Florida in 1970.
I also believe that Sydney was the brother of Elizabeth Roxanne Vogt, born about 1857, wife of James W. Moorer.
I believe that Ella Durr's father, John Durr was a brother of Jacob Durr, father of Mary Annis Durr Vogt and Martha Durr Carter of Florida. John and Jacob being the sons of
John Durr, Sr. who died between 13 Oct - 21 Nov 1820.
There was another Frederick Vogt in the 1850 Orangeburg District Census, also a physician, living with the family of H. N. Snell. This Frederick was age 30 [born about 1820]. I also believe that this Frederick is a child of Fredrick W. Vogt, but likely not a child of Mary Ann Catherine Dantzler.
Frederick W. Vogt supposedly died after September 20, 1855, but I have not been able to identify him in the 1850 census, unless the above Frederick is him and the date is in error, etc. I assume that Frederick died before 1850 and the 1855 date is from the 1855 Middleton Dantzler/ L. A. Snider land transaction near Elloree, SC of the exact same date as above.
There was also a Gabriel Vogt, born about 1820 who married
Martha E. Easterling 14 Dec 1843 in Rankin County, MS. Both Gabriel and Martha were from SC. Gabriel died between 1846 and 1850 census. Martha remarried to Robert L. Brown 09 Jan 1851. Martha died 07 Jul 1854. Children by Gabriel and Martha were: Francis, Albertis, and Gabriella Vogt, born between 1844 and 1846. I would like to think that Gabriel Vogt was also a member to this Vogt clan.
Jacob Michael Vogt was born 1811, died 1871 and married Eliza Frances Felder, born 06 Mar 1822 in Orangeburg District and died 13 Nov 1856 in Marion County, Florida. She is buried in the Blue Sink Cemetery, Marion County, Florida.
The following is a short outline of that family:
Descendants of Jacob Michael Vogt
1 Jacob Michael Vogt b: 1811 d: 1871
.. +Eliza Frances Felder b: 06 Mar 1822 in Orangeburg District, SC d: 13 Nov 1856 in Marion County, Florida

...... 2 Marcellus Vogt b: 1842
...... 2 Cornelia Josephine Vogt b: 30 Mar 1844 in Ocala, Florida d: 25 Mar 1900 in Wells, Orangeburg County, SC
.......... +Samuel Perdrieau Wells b: 24 Jul 1834 in Sumter District, SC d: 26 Dec 1911 in Wells, Orangeburg County, SC
...... 2 Leonidas Cheves Vogt b: 1846 d: 1914

...... 2 Jane Vogt b: May 1850

...... 2 Wilbur Vogt b: 1855 d: Aft. 1880
Would like to hear some speculation or other on the relationship of Old Frederick Vogt and Jacob Michael Vogt of 1811, Gabriel Vogt of 1820, Frederick Vogt of 1820(?), Daniel A. Vogt of 1824/1828, Thomas Preston Vogt of 1835, Adam H. Vogt of 1836 and Leonidas Vogt of 1850.
I believe that these Vogts are the descendants of Michael Vogt who recieved a land grant dated May 4, 1769 in Amelia Township, Berkeley County, SC, which was later designated as the Old Charleston District, or present day Orangeburg County, SC. This Michael Vogt acculated lands from 1769 to September 30, 1803 totally 710 acres over 4 different land grants. On October 21, 1820, there is a 12.5 transaction for Michael Vogt, surveyed by Dennis Gilmore. Dennis Gilmore was from Holly Hill, SC.
In 1813 there is a mention of a John George Vogt and Joseph Inabinet and a land grant of 986 acres on Sandy Run Swamp, Orangeburg District, SC, surveyed by Nathaniel Lawrence. I would like to think that the above Joseph Inabinet is the Joseph who married Mary Ann Murray, born 1807 and the aunt of Ella Durr Weatherford from above.
Rev. Nathaniel Lawrence's son John Lawrence also married into the Way family in SC, Elizabeth B. Way of 1804 and a cousin of sorts to Julia Way who married Thomas Preston Vogt.
Looking to add / correct to all of the above.
