He was listed as a "charron " (wagon wheel maker) in the 1666 and 1667 census. Their son Germain Morin was the first priest to be ordained in Canada. On 21 Sep 1965 Laurent Morin, a priest, wrote a great 255 Page book about him. It is titled "Le Chanoine German Morin, etc.". She took her final vowels on 27 Oct 1671 and was Mother Superior between 1693 and 1711. She was the first Canadian Nun of Ville-Marie. Jette claims Helene was baptized on 7 July 1620 in Québec. PRDH does not show this. Some claim Helene to be the first European female child baptized in this New France colony, later known as Canada. Her cousin Marguerite Martin was the second female baptized on 4 Jan 1624. Helene and her parents returned to France, after the capture of Québec by the Kirke brothers, on 24 July 1629. In 1633 Helene returned to Canada, a little before her marriage to Guillaume Hebert. Guillaume died in 1639 and in 1640 she married Noel Morin. Jette lists her as a "sage-femme" a mid-wife. In 1681 he can be found in the Montmagny's census. Alphonse Morin dit Valcour died 29 August 1711 and was buried two days later at Montmagny. This information concerns their daughter and son in law, Jacques Beaudon or Baudon dit La Grange died on the Île d'Orléans some time between October 1668 and 1670, probably at the beginning of 1669. After his death, Claire-Françoise had four enfants naturels. Son Antoine was baptized 16 February 1670 at Sainte Famille. His father was Jacques Genest dit Labarre, a soldier with the La Freydière company of the Carignan Regiment, who married Fille du Roi Catherine Doribeau or Doribelle about 1670. On 21 August 1671, Claire-Françoise baptized daughter Genevieve at Sainte Famille. The father was Thomas Gasse, future husband of Genevieve Sureau. The fathers of the last two illegitimate children are unknown. Anne was baptized 21 August 1672 at Sainte--Famille, followed by Marie, baptized 27 November 1678 and buried 20 December 1678 at Sainte Famille. On 31 November 1679, Claire-Françoise married Jacques Bluteau at Sainte Famille, Île d'Orléans. It is not know if her second husband could sign his name. Jacques was born in the parish of Saint-Maurice in Gué-de-Velluire (near Fontenay-le-Comte, diocese of Maillezais), Poitou, the son of Clement Bluteau and Anne Moques or Moquet. He was in Canada as early as 1665 and is listed in the 1666 census (as Jacques Blureau) on the Île d'Orléans as a travaillant, a sort of un-enlisted day laborer. Jacques entered into a marriage contract with Fille du Roi Catherine Lainé on 21 October 1671 (notary Becquet), but it was annulled and the two did not marry. Jacques and Claire-Françoise had five children. Son Jean was baptized 03 April 1680 at Sainte Famille, Île d'Orléans. Sadly, three of Claire's children died before the 1681 census: Andrée (Beaudon), Antoine (Genest) and Genevieve (Gasse). Son Louis was baptized at Sainte Famille on 07 October 1682, followed by Jacques (05 October, buried 26 October 1684), Etienne (03 February 1686) and a second Jacques (08 March, buried 25 June 1690). Claire-Françoise is noted as a patient at the Hôtel Dieu de Québec on 01 May 1690. Jacques Bluteau died 15 June 1699 at the Hôtel Dieu de Québec City. Son Jean (Bluteau) was crushed by a falling tree and died at the Hôtel Dieu de Québec on 16 February 1710. Claire-Françoise Pare-dite-de-Paris was buried 22 January 1720 at Sainte Famille. Notes for Marie-Madeleine Normand, King's Daughter: "King's Daughters", page 432, Marie-Madeleine Normand was born about 1651 in the parish of Saint-Hilaire de Sens in Burgundy, the daughter of Paris bourgeois Jean-Baptiste Normand and Catherine Pageot. After losing her father and watching her sister Catherine leave as a Fille du Roi in 1665, Marie-Madeleine left for Canada in 1669 at age 18, bringing with her goods worth an estimated 250 livres for her dowry. This would be worth about $3,800 in the USA in 2000. On 10 February 1670, Marie-Madeleine married Alphonse Morin dit Valcour at Québec City and was given the King's Gift of 50 livres. Both spouses signed the marriage contract drawn up 25 November 1669 by notary Duquet. Marie-Madeleine Normand died in childbirth 27 April 1690 at Montmagny, where she was buried the next day. Son Charles was buried at Montmagny 11 May of that same year and four-year-old Louis was buried the next month, on 30 June. She married Pierre Rivet-dit-Cavelier, (Pierre &L.Dusouchet) 28 Nov 1708 in Québec City, QC; born 17 Feb 1684 in Lachine, QC; died 08 Feb 1721 in Québec City, QC. ======================= Hi, I have decided to post all my Québec pioneer ancestor at the different GenForums because a lot of individuals doing genealogy research don’t realize that their ancestors can be found as early as the 1600s. My resources are limited because I live in Oregon. I hope that you use this information only as a guide. I welcome corrections and additions from anyone that has access to the original files. Originally I paid a genealogy society to trace the direct lines for 6 of my 8 great grandparents. They used the books that were compiled by volunteers for each parish. Because so many individuals had the same name, I eventually found some errors in these books. Then I used Tanguay and found out that he may be about 75% right and Jette (that goes to 1730) is about 90% right. Then just as I thought that I was finished, I found PRDH (University of Montreal) and I believe that they may be 98% right and still make corrections to their records. They go up to 1799 for marriage contracts and 1850 for some deaths. Some people have the luxury of having the original records at their disposal. I do not have that and with 17,000 individuals in my data base, I can not afford to pay for copies of all the originals. At that point I confirmed every that I had with the records at PRDH. Whenever I say “about” for a birth date it means that PRDH did not find it or if it is in the 1800s, I did not look it up because of my lack of resources. PRDH uses the most common spelling variation for the names. This makes it easier to trace the families. They do not always use the original name that appears on the contracts or birth records. That is ok with me, because many individuals before the 1900s could not sign their names and did not even care how others spelt it. As a result the same person’s name took on a variety of spellings. I also kept the “dit” (aka) names because eventually brothers from the same family, picked a different aka name. For a very small fee PRDH has all the Canadian records from 1600-1799 and some death dates up to 1850. Their records are about 18% accurate. They can be found at: http://www.genealogie.umontreal.ca/en/leprdh.htm As for the pioneers, I also used Peter Gagné’s English books on the single girls that arrived in New France between 1634 & 1662 and his book on the single girls that are referred to as the King’s Daughters that arrived between 1663 & 1673. These girls were recruited and paid by the King to go to New France (Québec) to get married and colonize the area. For the 1800-1900s I paid to prove my direct lines. My data for their extended family come from people on the web. The program that I use does not allow for baptismal dates, so if I don’t have a birth date, I use the baptismal date. The same goes for death vs. burial dates and actual wedding vs. contract dates. The newer programs have these features, but I will not be going through 18,000 records to make the changes. Use this information as a guide only. I view genealogy as a hobby and not as pure science. As for the stories, I got them all in French on the web and I translated them for my grandchildren. I had not read or spoken French in over 40 years, so it was difficult and may not be the best translation. Enjoy, Janet Notify Administrator about this message?
