My great grandmother was Elizabeth Mumby(1815-1899) who married Charles Cooke, Blacksmith (1814-1888) at Scowby, Lincolnshire in 1842. Names of the bride and groom's fathers were both John, John Cooke was a Blacksmith and John Mumby a labourer. According to the marriage certificate Elizabeth was a dress maker. The Cookes had a large family and most emigrated to Canada circa 1870, at least one went to NZ from Canada and it is said that one son went to Australia and at least one stayed in the UK. The Cooke family settled north of Belleville, Ontario where several Mumby families had settled in the 1840s.
