Pension # 168008 for Civil War. And Widows Application for Pension #338710 dated 8 Aug 1924 by Annette Mykel. Stephen Mykel enrolled on the 28 March 1864 at Steuben, NY in the 81 Regiment of NY Volunteers and mustered into service the same day as a Private to serve 3 years. In Company C, was discharged Aug 7, 1864 due to suffering a gunshot wound in the left lung on June 3 1864 at a battle at Cold Harbor. That the wound ocurred between the 3rd and 4th ribs and wholly disqualified the deponant from manual labor . Swelling and breaking out on bothj sides of his body and short breathing. That he died at his home, in Remsen, NY 21 Aug 1891, but his post office address was in Grant, Herkimer County. (*They are very close in proximity). Witnesses to the pension were R. M. Garlock, John and Louisa Miller. (*Louisa was STephen's sister) and George C Morey, the personal physician who stated that Stephen Mykel was confined to his house from March until her died in August of 1891. His condition was from the gunshot wound which left an abcess in his lung. The marriage of Stephen Mykel and Annette Thomas took place 2 January 1866 at Morehouseville, Hamilton Co., NY by B Bennett, a Justice of the Peace. And that the names of their minor children as of 7 Sept 1891 were: Robert Mykel bor 9 Dec 1866 Jessie Mykel born 21 Aug 1882 Frank Mykel born 21 Aug 1889 Annette Mykel died July 28, 1924 at Herkimer, NY and is buried at Gravesville, NY in Smith's Woodin Corners Cemetery in Grant, NY.
