Julia, Would suggest looking at both the 1860 and 1870 US Census for Morehouse Parish, LA, Post Office Bastrop. The 1860 census only gives initials for first names but in the 1870 you can get most of the given names. Your Joseph M. Naff, age 8 in the 1860 census and age 17 in the 1870 census is in the family of of Henry M. Naff, age 42, born in TN and his wife Mary A., age 37, born in AL. Children listed in addition to Joseph are John L. age 11, Catherine C. age 8 and Anna E. age 2. There are 2 other Naffs living there but in a adjacent building. They are Robert H. Naff age 19 and an Augustus Naff age 18. Looking at all the Naffs in the area, it appears they all came down to LA from Tennessee. I don't know if this family fits into our E-line.
