I visited the Nall family land and alleged gravesite near Tappahannock VA in June, 2007. I have been very remiss in posting what I found to the forum. I did take pictures which seem to indicate that this is the same site as is pictured at this website: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~ozarkgal/NalleCemetery.html. At least the trees seem to be bigger versions on those in the photo of the site and the fenced graveyard is about the right size. The area is being developed for housing. My understanding is that the developers of the property (Gregory Packett 804-450-7935) will leave the cemetery (and perhaps also the house that dates from the 19th century) intact along with about 10 acres of land. The cemetery is on Poplar Springs Lane outside Tappahannock. The Nall graves are not marked. It is known as the Balderson Cemetery and most of the graves carry that name or Buckner. The person to call about them is Deborah Page 804-443-4192. Below are the directions we found worked to get there, but things may have changed (like maybe street names marked) since we were there. Take Berry Hill Road off Hwy 17 (Tidewater Trail) near the intersection of Hwy 17 and Hwy 360 (aka Bray’s Fork). Go about ½ mile on Berry Hill. It’s paved. Turn right on the 1st paved road to the right. It has no name. Go to the crest of the hill. Turn right on Poplar Springs Lane. It’s not marked. When we were there Poplar Springs Lane did not go through to Hwy 360 as is shown on MapQuest or Google Maps. On those maps it’s shown as Mt. Clements Road at either end with Poplar Springs Lane in the middle. The address is in the 300 – 499 range of Poplar Springs Lane. The Google map is old but you can see the beginnings of the development roads, the roofs of the house and the outbuildings and the little grave site with trees. Please feel free to contact me at my email address and I will send you the photos.
