In the Name of God, Amen. I JESSE THOMAS of the County of Nash and State of North Carolina, being of sound and perfect mind and memory do this sixth day of January in the year of our Lord one thounsand eight hundred four make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and following to wit: 1st. My just debts all to be paid as soon as possession can be made for the same for which purpose. I leave one sorrell horse, and half of one bay more the other half being owned by my son JOSEPH THOMAS to be sold and the money arising from the sale thereof to be applied to that purpose. 2nd. I give and bequeath to my wife MARY THOMAS the lands bounded as follows: to wit: Beginning at a red oak on Peach Tree Creek at JOHN ALSTONS line thence a south course to JOSEPH THOMAS corner thence up the Spring Branch above the spring to a poplar thence an east course to REUBEN WHITFIELD'S dam on the Marsh Branch thence down said branch to JACOB THOMAS'S line thence down said branch to said Thomas's line to Peach Tree Creek, thence up the various courses of said creek to the beginning also my household and kitchen furniture and plantation utensils, three barrels corn and one cow and yearling, one cow and calf and all my cyder casks to be held and enjoyed by her during her natural life or widowhood and at her death or marriage as the case may be I give the before mentioned tract of land to my son JESSE THOMAS to him and his heirs forever. All my personal property devised to my wife during her life or widowhood. I leave at her death or marriage to be equally divided between my four daughters to wit: MARY THOMAS, ELIZABETH THOMAS, CHLOE THOMAS, and MOURNING THOMAS, one bed, and furniture excepted to be devised hereafter. 3rd. I give and bequeath to my son Jesse Thomas all the remainder of my lands not deeded to JACOB and JOSEPH nor devised to my wife Mary Thomas also one cow and calf and at the decease or marriage of my wife, one axe and grubing hoe and the bed and furniture before mentioned to him and his heirs forever. 4th. I constitute and appoint my friends ARCHIBALD GRIFFIN and JOHN LEWIS executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date first written.
