He married Margaret Helen Mills in Crieve, Co Monaghan, IRE, December 24, 1867. Margaret was born in Carnaveigh, Co Monaghan, IRE July 22, 1849. Margaret was the daughter of John Mills and Sarah (Ann, Nancy) Woods. Margaret died September 18, 1921 in Gisbourne, New Zealand, at 72 years of age. Her body was interred September 19, 1921 in New Zealand, Taraberu Cemetery. William Anderson and Margaret Mills were both of Carnaveagh, parish of Aughnamullen, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. He is the son of William Anderson, farmer, and she is the daughter of John Mills, farmer. They were married in the Crieve Meeting House by the Rev. Martin McDowell. The witnesses were Thomas Graham and Joseph Anderson. About one month after their marriage they immigrated to New Zealand. From the "Lyttelton Times", 4 May 1868, New Zealand: "Arrived, May 2 - Gainsborough, ship, 900 tons, C. Charlton, from London. Passengers - ... Farm Labourers - ... Wm. Anderson and wife, Monaghan..." [County Monaghan, Ireland] .... "The Gainsborough, commanded by Captain Charlton, arrived in harbour on Saturday morning after a passage of eighty four days from Plymouth. The commissioners and health officer, Dr. Rouse, went down at 1:30 pm, and found all well on board. The ship presented a clean appearance; the immigrants look very well and all speak in high praise of their treatment. The ship is provided with one of Graveley's distilling apparatus, which has acted well during the passage. She left Gravesend on January 25, and discharged the pilot off Dartmouth on January 29; on the 30th encountered a strong gale and was knocked about in the Channel till February 5, when she put into Plymouth and sailed again from that port on the 8th. The island of Madeira was sighted on February 20 and on March 12 sighted the island of Trinidad. From April 10 to theend of the voyage heavy gales were experienced, the ship making thirteen knots and running in one instance, 300 miles in twenty-four hours. At 6 pm on April 27 a heavy sea struck the ship and the first mate, Henry Seaborne, being washed among the pumps on the main deck, had his thigh bone fractured." William Anderson and Margaret Helen Mills had the following children: i. Mary Ann Anderson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand January 5, 1869. Mary died in New Zealand. She married William John Pithie in Christchurch, New Zealand, May 24, 1898. William was born in Waihi Bush, S Canterbury, New Zealand April 18, 1872. William died August 14, 1952 in New Zealand, at 80 years of age. She was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, January 28, 1869. ii. John Mills Anderson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand September 11, 1870. John died in New Zealand. He was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, November 13, 1870. iii. William Fredrick Anderson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand April 11, 1872. William died in New Zealand. He was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, April 28, 1872. iv. Joseph Alfred Anderson was born in Newtown, Christchurch, New Zealand June 12, 1875. Joseph died in New Zealand. He was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, August 8, 1875. v. Margaret Helen Anderson was born in Christchurch, New Zealand circa 1879. She married Taylor in New Zealand. He died in New Zealand. vi. Henry Herbert Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand October 17, 1880. Henry died in New Zealand. He was christened in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand, October 30, 1880. 2 vii. Esther Jane Anderson was born August 6, 1882 and is deceased. viii. Charles Edward Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand October 22, 1886. He was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, December 14, 1886. ix. Victoria Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand April 10, 1887. She married Walter Mason Lukey in Christchurch, New Zealand, December 1, 1920. Walter was born in Waikari, Canterbury, New Zealand 1882. Walter died in New Zealand. She was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, July 17, 1887. x. Prudentia Evelyn Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand February 13, 1889. She married Harding in New Zealand. She was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, May 5, 1889. xi. Lucy Eliza Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand April 25, 1891. She married George Macquarie Smith in Christchurch, New Zealand, August 20, 1912. George was born in Addington, Christchurch, New Zealand 1888. George died in New Zealand. She was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, August 9, 1891. xii. Arthur Stanley Anderson was born in Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand October 26, 1893. He was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, January 7, 1894. Second Generation 2. Esther Jane Anderson (William 1) was born in South Town Belt, Christchurch, New Zealand August 6, 1882. Esther died in New Zealand. She married Jason Farmer in Christchurch, New Zealand, January 1, 1908. Jason was born in Quinton, Worcester, ENG 1881. Jason died in New Zealand. She was christened in Christchurch, New Zealand, October 1, 1882. Esther Jane Anderson and Jason Farmer had the following child: i. Daphne Mavis Farmer was born in Papauni, Christchurch, New Zealand November 12, 1909. She was christened in Papauni, Christchurch, New Zealand, December 5, 1909.
