Carole, if you have not ordered the marriage certificate for Edward Yates and Sarah Jane Kemp you might consider doing it. Registration no. 1889/2768, order at http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/Home/
The marriage cert may answer the question of where they were born, and give their father's names and occupations. You could also order their death certs, and the birth for Sarah Jane (she was born in NZ).

Sarah Jane Yates, died 1917, age 52, giving an approx birth year of 1865 (there is a Sarah Jane Kemp born 1866 in New Zealand, which would fit). Buried under the name of JANE YATES. Death Reg No. 1917/10474, birth reg no. 1866/3944

Olive Lillian Yates, born 1890, married Edward Percival/Percy Corr in 1929. You might order their marriage cert for further info, Reg No. 1929/2475. Edward died in 1948 (born abt 1901) and is buried in Purewa Cemetery. Olive remarried in 1950 to Herbert Harris. She died in 1970 and is buried in Waikumete Cemetery.
Edith Mary Yates, born 1905, died 2005. Married Ernest Mansfield Lawson in 1921. Buried Waikumete.
Ella Gladys Mary Yates, born 1898
Herbert Yates, born 1895, died 1969. Buried Waikumete
Welbern Yates, born 1893, died 1975. Married Ruby Easton in 1920. Cremated North Shore

Ernest Cecil Yates, born 1896, died 1951. Waikumete Cem. Married Agnes Amelia May Wiggins in 1928
Elizabeth Jane Yates, born 1902
Arnold Simpson Yates, born 1892, died 1961. Buried Waikumete. Married Elizabeth Arnold 1915.
Hilda Ruby Yates, born 1901, died 1977. Never married. Buried Waikumete.
