Can anyone please help me find information about Jack Squires who died in New Zealand in 1918? Jack was born in Tasmania around 1884 but his birth was not registered. His mother was Elizabeth Wright (maiden name)who married a Benjamin Parker in Tasmania in 1887. Jack appears to be Elizabeth's first child and her second child Eliza Grace was also born before the marriage but her birth was recorded as Parker. Now it gets more complicated. Benjamin Parker disappears (no further record of him) but more siblings are born under Elizabeth's married name of Parker but some are baptised with Henry Squires listed as their father. Three sons all enlisted in WW1 under the name of Squires, two in Tasmania although their births were recorded as Parker and Jack Squires in New Zealand. I did not know about Jack until researching newspaper cuttings where I found a death and memorial notices placed by Elizabeth and Henry Squires of Hastings, Tasmania. Jack served as a trooper overseas and returned to New Zealand in 1918, after two years service but he died in the influenza epidemic on 22 November 1918 and his wife was Ethel. I do not know where he is buried or when he married and I have not found army service records. Any asssistance wouls be appreciated. Thank you Daphne Notify Administrator about this message?
