I now have a tentative theory as to the identity of Eliza (Null) Davis's parents. I believe that her father was likely John Null, son of William and Sophia Null and her mother was a Miss Rogers, John Null's first wife. She was apparently the daughter of James Rogers, Sr. who died about 1805 or 1806 in what became Jefferson Co. Missouri.
Most of my evidence was kindly provided by Lynn Fischer. By process of elimination, John is the only child of William and Sophia Null likely to be Eliza's father.
Lynn Fischer also sent me a transcript of an 1844 Jefferson Co. MO land record which list Eliza Davis and several Nulls as heirs of a James Rogers. The James Rogers, Jr. that died in the 1860s is too young to be Eliza's grandfather. I obtained several books on early Missouri land grants, of which Citizens of Missouri Territory to 1835, Vol. 3, Frances T. Ingmire, ed., 1984, contains several references to both James Rogers, Sr. and his son James Rogers, Jr. It is James Rogers, Jr. who appears on the 1830, 1840, and 1850 censuses of Jefferson Co. MO. According to Mrs. Ingmire's book, James Rogers, Sr. died in either 1805 or 1806, having either 8 or 9 children. So, I assume that Eliza (Null) Davis's mother was a daughter of the elder James Rogers. Unfortunately, this book states that James Rogers' widow had remarried, but fails to state her name.
Can anyone add anything in support, or which disproves any part, of my new theory?
