Dear researchers of Edward Bevan...I just happened upon this site whilst looking for information about a small book written apparently around the 1880s, by an Edward Bevan and called, "Les récidivistes". This is about political prisoners who were taken from Paris to New Caledonia in the Pacific during the late 1870s. The book 'shows a knowledge of France and New Caledonia and of Townsville in Queensland, Australia. This may be out of the way of your research but keep in mind that many people came from San Francisco in the mid to late 1800s to Australia in search of gold when the boom ended in San Fran. They then tried New Caledonia where the minerals were bountiful and still are. Hoping this adds something to your search. Kathy
