Hey,
There are many o'Beirns in Galway Ireland. The name used to be either byrne or beirne but was changed during the period leading up to the Irish revolution. It is essentially the Gaelic spelling of byrne so your ancestors were likely to be Irish nationalists from what I've been told! hope this is of help
