Thank you for taking the time to reply to my listing. I don't believe there is a connection between us as my grandfather's name was John O'Brien and his daughter, Alice O'Brien, who was my mother, married a Martin. My maiden name was Martin and my married name is Fennell. My husband's family on both the paternal and maternal side were originally from Ireland and settled in the Massachusetts area. I can trace the Fennells back as far as around 1840 and ironically, his great great paternal grandfather was named Edward and the name was handed down through each generation thereafter. His grandmother was a McGowan, who migrated from Canada around 1900 and married Edward Fennell in Massachusetts and had my husband's father, Edward Fennell. On his maternal side, the name was Kerrigan and we can trace that back to 1844 in Ireland, then they came to Massachusetts and settled there shortly after that. Then a Kerrigan married a Thornell, who married a Purdy, who married Edward Fennell in 1927 and my husband was born. So, I don't believe any O'Briens were mixed in there although it could be possible. I am afraid that this search of mine is a lost cause as there were so many John O'Briens born in the late 1800s in Boston and New York as well. He actually met my grandmother Rose in New York and married her in 1913. I have since been able to find and get a copy of their marriage certificate in New York, where he lists his mother as Mary and his father as James O'Brien from Ireland. As you may well know being an O'Brien relation yourself, there were many Mary, James & John O'Briens at that time. Anyway thanks again for replying and good luck to you in your search.
