Where do I fit?

I am new to this Genealogy thing so I would like to solicit some help.

I am trying to figure out where in the family tree I fall. The oldest relative that I knew of on the west cost was my grandfather Clifford Andrew O'Day. I knew he had family back east (Chicago area I think), but have no names. I know that he moved out to California about 50 years ago.

Any information on where I may fall in the grand scheme of things would be appreciated.
