A biography/family history of Ignatius D. O'Donnell is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2. I.D. O'Donnell imm. to the US in 1865, settling near Saginaw, MI. Located to Montana in 1882 where he first worked on a horse ranch owned by Frederick Billings, the president of Northern Pacific Railroad. Later was put in charge of the Billings ranch of several thousand acres. Subsequently, he took charge of the Billings' large irrigation system and in 1892 negotiated the purchase of the system by a company of farmers and he was elected president of the company. In 1888, I.D. purchased Hester Farm. He was the first to investigate sugar beet possibilities in Montana and helped organize a company to erect a sugar beet factory. He organized many new businesses in Billings. The 1910 Federal Census, Billings, MT, shows I.D., age 48 married to Louise, born in Michigan. Children born in MT: Helene, 21; Louise, 18; Carrol 14; Ignatius, 12; Gastone?, 9; Kathleen, 4. Ignatius D. O'Donnell died 28 Jan 1948, age 87, Billings, MT Louise O'Donnell died 12 Apr 1925, age 63, Billings, MT I am not related Notify Administrator about this message?
