Tasha, Many thanks for your input. We appreciate your interest. Since our original post, a number of discrepancies have emerged between what Alleyn Becher O'Dwyer claimed to have been his background and what it is reality was. It turns out that, despite what was written in his passport, he was born in 1900, not 1898. His place of birth was not Ireland but Poona, India. He did not attend Clifton College, Bristol, England, and he did not enter the Royal Naval Air Service in 1917. He did, however, join the Royal Air Force in May 1918, and served in the final months of World War I. In 1919, he returned to India, and worked as a commodities buyer in Calcutta. From this point on, we are sure his life matches with what we believed to be true. There is still a hole in his life we have not been able to fill. We believe he left India sometime in his childhood, possibly in the company of his mother, after the death of his father, Henry Michael O'Dwyer, in Calcutta on 11th August 1914. We think that they went to live on the rural estate of the Gilpin family in Ireland, relatives of theirs, and that Alleyn Becher spent all his time there until he could enlist with the RAF in 1918. If anyone has any details of the Gilpin family, or, better still, of Alleyn Becher O'Dwyer, during this period, we would love to hear from them. Notify Administrator about this message?
