Hello, Mary. Thanks for your efforts regarding the Kruse family. I was in Cinncinnati briefly in September 2003 and visited both Spring Grove Cemetery and Vine Street Cemetery.

I found the graves of August Kruse and his second wife, Emma Schuh, at Spring Grove. Also buried there was Fred Aexander Kruse, son of August and his first wife, Ida Anderson,in the military section. He was my father-in-law. I also saw the record which stated that August's mother was Clara Kruse. I don't know where the name Clara came from; I only know her as Henrietta.

I found a record, but no graves, at Vine Street Cemetery for August's father, Frederick (aka) Fred Kruse. Also buried in that plot was August's first wife, Ida, together with a few unknown infants.

August's wife, Ida, died in 1903, and I was told that Henrietta took care of him and his son, Frederick after Ida died. August married Emma in 1908.

I had found August Kruse on the 1900 Census in Newport, Kentucky with his first wife, Ida, and their son and on the 1920 Census in the Cincinnati area with his second wife, Emma, and the same son. The Census you found would have been the 1900 Census, not the 1910, since Ida died prior to the 1910 Census.

Frederick Kruse and his two sons, August and Frederick, owned a shoe manufacturing plant and retail shoe store in Cincinnati. I have been unable to track either the son, Frederick, or the wife, Henrietta. At times I have felt that the Frederick W. Kruse married to Rose might be the son, but haven't been able to substantiate it. Neither Cincinnati or the State of Ohio seemed to have any record of the death or burial of Henrietta Kruse. I was told by the family that she died in 1911. Thanks again for your help.
