A biography of Clinton D. O'Neil, Kalispell, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 851 and 852. Clinton was the son of DeWitt Clinton and Belle L. (Frear) O'Neil. Clinton D. was educated in the public schools of Missouri and at age 17 came to Montana to join his brother, C.I. O'Neil, who was working at Belt, MT. Subsequently, the brothers moved to Kalispell, MT, and bought a lumber business, incorporated in 1902 as O'Neil Lumber Company, one of the largest organizations of its kind in Northern Montana. Besides lumber yards, they operated a planing mill, a sash, window and door factory, and box factory, and owned 5,000 acres of timber land adjacent to Kalispell. For several years Clinton served as fire chief of Kalispell. Clinton married Miss Emma A. Engermann, born in Renville County, MN, daughter of Henry and Anna (Gaffney) Engermann. O'NEIL DIES, PIONEER VALLEY LUMBERMAN Clinton DeWitt O'Neil was born Feb. 7, 1877, in Osborn, Kansas, son of DeWitt C. and Belle Frear O'Neil. The family later moved to Rich Hill, Missouri, and in 1895 came to Kalispell. On Dec. 25, 1900, he married Miss Emma Engeman in Kalispell. He is survived by his wife, Emma; a daughter, Mrs. Wilda May Wilson; two sons, DeWitt and Carle F. of Kalispell; and seven grandchildren. Two children preceded him in death, Vera Ann in 1953, and Floy in 1904. He is also survived by one brother, Charles I. O'Neil, in Pomona, California, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. O'Neil had been a printer's devil for the Belt Valley Times in the late 1890s and was a favorite of the Daily Inter Lake staff for his ready recognition of feature stories. She died at the home of her son, C.I, O'Neil, in Pomona, CA. DeWitt Clinton O'Neil died, 22 May 1916, Kalispell, MT. On 14 Sep 1919, Pomona, CA, Isabelle married Henry W. Smith of Tustin, CA.
