Takel & Peter Ouderkirk New York to Ontario

Shirley Forth's book "A Dutch Cooper's Legacy: An Ouderkirk Story From 1660" provides much insight into why Takel and Peter Ouderkirk brought their families to Ontario. As this book is no longer in print and Shirley has passed away, I'd be happy to share information from it with anyone who contacts me. It does contain inaccuracies, as does "The Ouderkerk Family Genealogy Vol II", and I have made many corrections to my own data after finding primary source documents. Nonetheless both provide good starting points for research.
I have confirmed through independent research that Takel Ouderkerk served on the American side during the Revolutionary War. His widow eventually collected a small veteran's pension and this is documented in the files of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Takel's younger borther, Peter, also fought in the war, but I have not confirmed Peter's information. When the revolution ended, men who fought, hoping to get land in return for their service, were disappointed in the slow rate at which land grants were awarded. In 1794, Takel's brother, Peter, journeyed to the Willimasburg area of Upper Canada where many of his loyalist neighbours had settled. He seemed to like what he saw and by 1800 had moved his family there and in 1803 purchased 100 acres in Williamsburg (Lot 29 Con 2)from a UEL. Most of the Ouderkirks in the Dundas area descend from Peter. Takel and his family followed Peter but encountered some difficulties regarding Crown Lands and Clergy Reserves. Takel's sons Frederick and Hendrik Takel fought on the Canadian side in the War of 1812. Frederick was killed. Hendrik Takel (Henry) married Magdalena Froats in 1815 and stayed to raise his children in Upper Canada. He eventually brought his family to Muskoka. His grave is located in Bracebridge United Cemetery, a five minute drive from my house. Takel and his wife, Maria, moved back to New York around 1816 for reasons unknown. Takel died in 1826. You will note that the name changed from Ouderkerk to Ouderkirk with Hendrik Takel's generation.
