We are looking for descendants of John Ovens (my great-great-grandfather). He was born in Ireland, possibly County Donegal about 1809.
John emigrated to Jersey City, New Jersey (prior to 1842)and lived there for a short time before settling in Toronto, Canada with his wife Jane (Wakefield) and their six children: Eliza, Fanny, Robert and Matilda (twins), Jane and Edward.
John and Jane founded a "fancy goods establishment" in Toronto around 1850 which was still in operation in 1927.
We would appreciate hearing from any descendants or anyone who can provide information.
