Jesse Pace m. Martha Norvell 1843 Albemarle VA-Bailey connection?

My gggrandfather, Temple Bailey was the bondsman at the marriage of Jesse Pace and Martha Norvell on November 27, 1843, according to Albemarle County VA marriage records. Jesse is listed as the son of Elizabeth Pace, and Martha is the daughter of Thomas W. Norvell. They all show on the 1850 census in Albemarle, but what is the Bailey connection?

Also, a Pace (can't read signature) was witness at the marriage of Mary Bailey Lumsden and Henry Lumsden on March 8, 1855.
